Gurkha Rifle Platoon (BR767) includes HQ Section & three Rifle Squads. The Gurkhas of Nepal have a superb reputation as first-class fighting men. They are recruited from hardy hill tribes in the Himalayan mountains. Their ferociousness when using their heavy-bladed Khukuri knives in close combat is legendary. So too is their determination not to abandon their weapon while still alive.

Road To Rome The Allied push up the boot of Italy had come to a dramatic halt outside the small Italian town of Cassino. Looming above the battlefield stood a large Benedictine monastery, which commanded the approach up the Liri Valley toward Rome. Over eight months the Allied and German armies attacked and counterattacked each other with heavy losses and little gains. Even with the landing at Anzio, where the Germans responded with a ferocious assault in a bloody but unsuccessful counterattack, little headway was made. The Allies amassed what reserves they could for a final attempt to break the deadlock at Cassino, connect with the bridgehead at Anzio, and claim the prize of Rome. The Gurkhas’ first charge at Cassino led them across Snakeshead Ridge and through the Germans’ first line of defence to just below the Cassino monastery hill. They were stopped by the tough German paratroopers in The Thicket, which was heavily booby-trapped with antipersonnel mines. Slowly the Ghurkas made their way around the hill to the south and secured Hangman’s Hill. Finding themselves cut-off and surrounded they dug in. The Gurkhas held against repeated counterattacks from the Fallschirmjäger above before finally fighting their way back to the Indian lines. Designed by Evan Allen Painted by Andrew Agutters |

Fielding Gurkhas in Flames Of War You may field an Indian Rifle Company as a Gurkha Rifle Company (marked ) by making your Rifle Platoons into Gurkha Rifle Platoons. Gurkha Rifle Platoons use the Khukuri special rule in addition to the Indian and British special rules. In all other ways a Gurkha company remains an Indian company. |
Khukuri Every Gurkha carries a heavy-bladed recurved knife called a Khukuri. They use this for everything from cutting food and wood to chopping off the heads of their foes. If there are no enemy Tank teams or Bunkers within 2”/5cm of a Gurkha team, the Gurkha team hits on a roll of 2+ in Assaults. |
