UK 2017 Grand Tournament Report
with Mick Rood

Once again, following the success of 2016, Battlefront, The Reluctant Conscripts and Battlefield Hobbies were hosting the UK GT 2017. The BH venue in Daventry, Northamptonshire is well established now and the guys have a great number of events under their belts, so their support for the RCs is pretty seamless. Battlefront had provided a mass of prize support, trophies and the exclusive 2017 objectives.

This year we had players representing Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, New Zealand and Finland that nearly outnumbered UK entries. The transition from v3 to v4 had shaken up the UK scene and we got a lot of new names onto the roster that we hadn’t had before, always welcome for new faces to come onto the tourney scene.

The Reluctant Conscripts for this event were Myself, Tommy Brown, Alex Billing and Ian Mann. Weeks of preparation would hopefully bring success to this event and assimilating the latest BF releases, updates and missions. The release of ‘More Missions’ and it’s Battle Plan mission selector was going to be used so that each table would have its own scenario rather than our standard format of TO designated scenario. It was interesting to see how that worked and I will be looking at the whole to see what scenarios were played after 100+ games during the weekend.

Once again we were blessed with some awesome talent shown in the Iron Cross painting award entries

With Tommy, Alex and Manny doing all the ‘grunt’ work, I was able to play and brought out my tried and trusted 1st Fallschirmjager Kompanie. Having a love for the Crete and Italian campaigns this was the first FOW force I put together just as FOW was transitioning from v1 to v2!!

For me, I had 5 great games against real Gentlemen, Alex Trenchard, Stuart Preston, Jussi Pertilla, Krzysztof Kuczerawy and Mat Booth. I really enjoyed the Battle Plans part to the game and there was a lot of discussion around that over the course of the weekend.

Our final pleasure was to hand out the trophies and prize support to the winners. Congratulations to all the winners and particular note to the Italian Team who took 1st, 3rd and 6th place.

Hopefully see you in November 2018!!!
