AS37 Sahariana (IT244)

AS37 Sahariana (IT244)
Contains a 1pc resin AS37 Sahariana with MG, AT Rifle, 47mm AT gun and 20mm AA gun options.
After the successful campaign against the Senussi, Italian troops guarding the frontier knew a lot about fighting in the deep desert. What’s more is that the Italians began building modern roads to supply the remote outposts as well as airfields to fly in supplies and operate air patrols. Finally, this also gave them the opportunity to chart accurate maps of the deep desert.

Burning Empires: Raiding

Roving the desert between these remote outposts were several
Autosahariana patrols. These patrols consisted of armed all-terrain
trucks and operated as mobile reserves.
|
|
|
They were unique in that they could rely on air support, as each company had a flying section attached to it. In fact each patrol was under the command of an officer from the air force to increase cooperation. Armed with both mobile troops and air support, an Autosahariana was ideally suited for desert defence.
If a threat appeared in the desert, the forts could rely on the Autosahariana columns to reinforce their position and chase away the enemy. The Italian forces in the deep desert were, in many ways, more prepared for the upcoming war than their comrades along the Mediterranean coastline!

"The Autosahariana were the original motorised unit in the Sahara Desert. They had spent the years before the war mapping the wastes and building up their forces, making them a lot more prepared for the coming war than their comrades elsewhere."
|
|
|
"An Autosahariana Platoon use the Motorcycle
Reconnaissance rules on pages 10-11 of Burning Empires except for the
Basing Motorcycles rule (trucks are based individually)." |
|
|
"All trucks in an Autosahariana Platoon dismount as Rifle/MG teams." |

Autosahariana Trucks
"Following the pacification of the Sahara Desert, the Italians led
the world in mechanising its desert patrol forces with a wide
collection of trucks and cars. These provided excellent service to the
Autosahariana, which happily modified them to meet their demands. On one
occasion the Sahariana even used an LRDG Ford V8 captured at Jebel
Sherif." |
|
|
"Not every Autosahariana company was
entirely equipped with AS37 or AS42 trucks. Feel free to model some or
all of your trucks as Fiat 634 trucks (using German Opel Blitz trucks,
GE439 or GE430), Lancia RO trucks, or any combination of the above.
Command vehicles were often old Fiat 508 cars if not simply another
truck or even a Ford V8. Basically, feel free to use any of these
vehicles in place of any of your AS37 trucks." |
