Desert Hazards (BB125)
|
Desert Hazards (BB125) The desert is full of unseen hazards. The fighting men would often run into terrain that held hidden features, difficulties or advantages undetected when viewed from a distance. This product is currently out of stock. |
Solid ground became soft sand or salt marshes, rocky ground could hide a wadi or a seemingly impenetrable escarpment could conceal easy passage. The variable terrain rules add this element of uncertainty and colour of these hazards to your games. |
"See page 160 of Hellfire and Back for more details regarding the rules on deploying the Desert Hazards on the battlefield." Learn more about Hellfire and Back here... |

Working on Desert Hazards The Desert Hazards box set (BB125) has everything you will need to use the desert hazards special rules found in the Flames Of War book, Hellfire and Back! These rules reflect the dangers that lurked in desert navigation, ranging from hidden minefields to soft sand and salt marshes, which swallowed up vehicles as they tried to pass by. The Desert Hazards box set comes with two bases, like the ones you will find in the Desert Palms set. In the game you place these bases on the table, but no player really knows what is inside until someone tries to cross it! Right: The Desert Hazards (BB125) box set. |
When this happens the player crossing the base rolls a dice, consults the Desert Hazards special rules, and places the appropriate markers on the base to define what’s inside. The Desert Hazards box set includes six of these markers to use. |
|
There were not a lot of wrecked tanks in southern Libya, however as the war in the Sahara overflowed north, the wrecks from previous battles became certain navigational hazards. For my pieces I wanted to embrace as much of the mystery of the hazards as possible. Since the large bases are an unknown quantity, I have kept them unaltered, blank, and empty. However, I spent some time with a few of the markers to add some more detail to the models. |

I wanted to have my markers fit in with the rest of my desert-themed armies, so I repainted this Panzer III in early colours, and blackened it to show that it has burnt-out. |
One easy thing you can do to dress up your markers is to add some appropriate decals. I added some markings to this Crusader III tanks. |
I left the rocky outcropping markers alone. They look great as-is and represent uneven ground quite well. I also left the large bases untouched to preserve the mysterious nature of the pieces. |

Note: There were plenty of broken down and abandoned wrecks of other varieties in the Sahara, such as aircraft, trucks, and more. Feel free to model additional hazard bases using the types of trucks and debris found in the region your troops will be fighting. |
