FlamesCon 2016 FlamesCon 2016 Report
with Greg Lockton

Labour weekend has just passed here in New Zealand and that’s meant another edition of our largest singles Flames Of War event, FlamesCon! This year, the guys from the Behind Enemy Lines podcast and TCOW club alums took charge of the event and it’s operation from whoa to go. The venue has also shifted this year and we were hosted at the Onehunga RSA club (Returned Services) which had ample room for the 36 players as well as an onsite restaurant and bar. Heaven!

This year’s event was a 1625 point Late-war jaunt and we saw a massive range of armies selected from a heap of nations. There were big tanks, little tanks, infantry hordes, armoured cars, artillery and everything in between. There was the fear of Jagdtiger spam but we only saw three all weekend and they were in the same army, really great to see. We had a total of nine nations played, including the Big Four.

But of course, there can only be one winner. This year’s honours went to Kit Goldsbury and his American 80th Infantry division force. Mike Haycock and his Panzerspah took second place honours with Rob Sadler’s Polish finishing the podium. And of course, the ever important wooden spoon…. Chris Townley, take a bow!

A massive thanks to both Battlefront and Mighty Ape for sponsoring the prizes for this year’s event. We couldn't do it without your ongoing support! Roll on 2017!
