The Battle of the Bulge In December 1944 the German forces were supposed to be on the back foot, so their desperate push in the Ardennes took the Allies by surprise. Desperate defence by the American and British Commonwealth forces gradually turned to counterattack as they fought to erase the 'Bulge'.

On the defence, dig the guns in and use its small profile to make them as difficult to see as possible.
Fortunately for the US Airborne units, theBritish had already redesigned the 6 pdr (which the M1 57mm is US manufactured version) to fit into a Horsa glider. It also fitted the Waco glider, so rather than go through the design process independently the US Airborne troops adopted the 6 pdr on the Mark III carriage as the M1 57mm (Airborne). Gun shield. |

Gun Shields Manning a gun in the thick of battle is a hazardous job. To offset the increased vulnerability of gun crews to enemy fire, many guns have a bulletproof gun shield. Gun Shields provide your Gun teams with Bulletproof Cover from shots fired from in front of a line drawn across the front of the team’s base. Shots fired from behind this line hit the unprotected crew behind it. Gun Shields do not provide cover to teams moving At the Double, nor from artillery bombardments. |
