Mitragliace Breda Modello 37

The Modello 37 represented perhaps the best of the various small arms available to the Italian Army outside of their excellent submachine guns. The Breda still had its limitations however.

The ammunition needed to be lubricated and fire was dictated by the use of a 20 round ammunition tray.  The tray was drawn through the machine, with the spent ammunition being returned to the tray after firing.

The use of lubricated ammunition unfortunately invited stoppages when mixed with the gritty desert environment of North Africa.
