North American Office: Tank Aces League
The Games
with Joe Krone

The North American Battlefront Miniatures office was very excited about getting the Tank Aces campaign as a great excuse to build and collect some new forces. We created a lunch-time league and for the first week we busily assembled and prepared our tanks for battle. Over the league's remaining weeks, we played the three-round campaign and continued to work on our tanks so in the end we had a fully painted 900 -point force.

The Tank Aces campaign is a wonderful league to play because the games are quick and can easily be played in an hour (which is conveniently our lunch break at work). Players new to the hobby will also find Tank Aces a great way to be introduced to the rules because it concentrates on moving, shooting, and some morale without the additional rules confusing you.

Once you understand how tanks work in the game you can work on learning other aspects of the rules such as assaults, artillery, and aircraft.

Round 1 started off with the Allied forces winning almost every game and captured all three territories. The Allied players were more experienced with Flames Of War and the two German players were starting in Flames Of War with version three.

Rob, the Soviet, played against both Allied and Axis forces rolling to determine which side he was fighting for.

Round 2 the gloves came off and the German players adjusted their forces to cope with up gunned tank destroyers and Shermans.

Round 2 at 700 points was a more competitive week but the Allies managed to win 2 out of the 3 territories.

Round 3 at 900 points proved to be the most interesting week because the Germans were beginning to make a comeback. Too little too late as the Allies had acquired too many points in rounds one and two and secured victory.

We had a lot of fun and we were immediately discussing our next lunch league upon completing the Tank Aces campaign. The sign of a truly successfully gaming event is when the players constantly ask ‘What’s next?’. I look forward to finishing off my tank destroyer list and playing some more games with my co-workers in the future.

Next week, I'll sum up our experience of playing in this Tank Aces campaign.
