Building an Amphibious Japanese Army

Andrew Haught is so enamoured with the idea of amphibious tanks, he is planning a Japanese army around them, anticipating a mostly waterborne battle against Chris Townley, who is equally fascinated with the Marine 'Amtanks'.

Competitions

Usually our exclusive tournament objectives are only given to participants in an official Battlefront tournament. We are making an exception with this year's Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima objective, because there has been so much interest. It's still not for sale, but we"ll be giving one away for each day of our Pacific launch week.

The first giveaway is simple - you just have to 'like' this post on Facebook. You still have about five hours before a winner is chosen at random.

The second giveaway is also very easy. Just reply to this Tweet on our @Flames_Of_War Twitter stream in the next 24 hours.

If you're not on Facebook or Twitter, don't worry – we'll have more chances to win coming up over the next few days.

John Boultwood, aka 'Warpainter's Brother', was well known on our forum for painting stunning-looking armies, often with extensive customisation and conversions. Back in 2007, when the Pacific Theatre was just a far-off dream for Flames Of War, he painted this Australian Infantry Company in New Guinea.

Battle of Tarawa
Pacific Launch Week
The Battle of Tarawa was fought from November 20-23, 1943. Tarawa was the most fortified atoll US forces would invade during the Pacific Campaign. Previous landings met little or no initial resistance, but this time the 4500 Japanese defenders were well-prepared, and they fought almost to the last man, exacting a heavy toll on the United States Marine Corps. More than 1000 US troops were killed in action and some 2000 were wounded in only three days of fighting at Tarawa.
